Who Pays for the Pill?

In other news, I am a regular reader/lurker on Pandagon. Amanda Marcotte, one of my favorite writers on issues relating to feminism, resides there and she has a video series on reproductive rights issues. Here is her most recent video, called Who Pays for the Pill? She produces these videos for RH Reality Check (RH= Reproductive Health), another excellent site offering incredible information and analysis on all things regarding reproductive health.

Prop 8 - The Musical!

I have spent the day feeling very tired, but I wanted to share a funny video called Prop 8 - The Musical! staring Jack Black. As Jesus.

There is no evidence to support a link between abortion and depression

Ok, so here is my first attempt at a real, honest to goodness link. Nothing like starting with one of the most controversial topics in recent history!

For those who might not understand why demonstrating there is no connection between abortion and depression is important, it has to do with debunking a favorite talking point among anti-choicers. This inaccurate belief was used as part of the legal reasoning in a recent Supreme Court case that made the medically safest procedure for late term abortions unconstitutional:
"The U.S. Supreme Court, while noting that 'we find no reliable data to measure the phenomenon,' cited adverse mental health outcomes for women as part of the rationale for limiting late term abortions," Blum's team wrote.

Now I must go to bed.

What if I threw a party and no one came?

What if I just wrote my first post and then accidentally deleted it?

I'm really not sure about this venture. I've been reading blogs avidly since 2002. But I rarely comment. I listen a great deal and feel as if I’m learning as fast as my little brain can go. I am much more likely to send unsolicited emails to my friends and family, notifying them of important political dynamics and interesting or compelling world events. So, the last time I sent something out to all and sundry, I realized I was cringing. After so many years of doing this, I was waiting for the "Get a blog, ferchrisakes" comment (in the "get a room" tone). No one sent that comment (in fact, the email was well received). But I'm tired of cringing.

I have a lot to say when speaking face to face, but I'm not really sure what my voice is going to be like in this forum. I’ve always had trouble with commas. Also, all my favorite bloggers know a hell of a lot more than I do on most of my favorite topics. It seems I've now supplied any potentially interested readers with more than enough reason to skip this blog. Oops.

Nonetheless, here I go off the high dive, and the last time I did that (in Mexico when I was, like, 15) it was fun. Twice.

I’m just like the Einstein quote says: someone with no exceptional talent who likes to think about things and is very curious about her world and the way it works. I’m not at all clear what Einstein was thinking when he said that about himself. So, for those of you still reading, please consider checking in with me periodically, as I intend to blog, think deeply in a painfully earnest and self-deprecating sort of way, and link to things that will interest me and may end up piquing your interest as well.

I wonder if the second post will be easier because that was just brutal.
